Statements & Dedications

Charlie Kniceley, Festival Chair:

Seven years in a row, a new record for the Street Festival. This marks the festival’s determination to continue its good works in the local community as well as provide a much anticipated summer “party” for all the residents of the Hudson Valley and beyond. I am continually surprised by the number of folks who comment to me on how much they look forward to the festival and feel the need for it to continue.

I would like to express my gratitude to each and every volunteer who works to complete every task, no matter how small or large, that is required to make the festival a success. There are so many behind-the-scenes things that need to be taken care of as well as the more obvious public parts of the festival.

We have a few new faces on the festival committee this year and for that we are all very grateful but we need more to keep the festival alive! Please consider being a part of the team!

To all the musicians and entertainers who have donated their time and considerable talents all these years to make this festival a huge success. Thank you all. This year alone, there were more than 100 bands who volunteered but unfortunately we didn’t have space for. I wish we could accommodate everyone since it’s hard to say “no thank you” when people offer their talent.

The festival is supporting Operation Music Aid in their efforts to raise money to send instruments to our wounded soldiers by providing a booth and holding a raffle drawing on Sunday afternoon. For the future, the festival hopes to have adequate monies to sponsor scholarships for deserving local young musicians to summer music camps and college and provide funding for special-needs instruments for qualified students in the area.

Thanks to all you folks who make the effort to donate when you come. Every little bit helps and without the donations from visitors, we wouldn’t be able to have the festival.

We are all grateful to the organizers and volunteers who have worked to make each festival a continuing success since 1978.

And thank you, thank you, thank you to anyone who I have forgotten to mention and everyone who gives of their time and energy to make the it all work.

VIVA LA ROSENDALE

Jeanne Walsh, Supervisor, Town of Rosendale

It is my pleasure as the Supervisor of the Town of Rosendale to welcome you to the 2012 Rosendale Street Festival. Our historic character, natural beauty, and cultural resources are part of the charm of Rosendale.

Known as the “Festival Town,” Rosendale has been hosting the Street Festival for 34 years. This festival is run solely by volunteers and I would like to thank and commend all of them for their hard work and dedication.

As a participant at the very first festival in 1978, I worked at my family’s business—La Fera’s Luncheonette in the old Gilmartin’s storefront—and I have continued to be an active volunteer throughout the years. I have many fond memories of the Rosendale Street Festival.

This annual event gives all residents and visitors the opportunity to experience music, art and culture.

I hope you enjoy the 2012 Rosendale Street Festival and take the opportunity to visit our local businesses, restaurants and shops.
